We represent the towns of Ely, Soham and Littleport.
ELY
Ely is a traditional Cambridgeshire Cathedral City lying just 15 miles from the centre of Cambridge. The city has a good range of housing, schools and employment opportunities and is well related to both the road and rail networks. With attractive riverside views and a wealth of historic buildings Ely has much to offer to visitors and residents alike. A general market is held weekly on a Thursday, with a varied Saturday Craft and Collectibles markets, in addition on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of every month the Market plays host to a nationally accredited Farmers Market.
Running throughout the year, a Saturday Park and Ride service is well sign-posted from the main A10, enabling visitors and those living in the surrounding villages easy access to all that Ely has to offer. A recent marketing campaign has developed the brand ‘Ely – a city for all reasons’ and this truly is the case.
SOHAM
In the middle of the town there are many fine 18th and 19th century buildings and an attractive recreation ground. The High Street, which leads on from Churchgate Street, has many restored buildings and a quaint thatched pub next to the war memorial. Over the centuries Soham has spread from its original heart, and these days the busy A142 diverts traffic around the town. There is a good shopping centre with a wide variety of shops, many individually owned and managed. There are also many pubs, cafes and restaurants providing a variety of food, including traditional English menus. Public facilities include a Library, medical centre, a primary school and village college.
Soham also retains its association with St. Felix who founded a monastery on the present sit of the church in the early seventh century. The present church of St Andrew in the centre of the town dated from the 12th century and has many fine features including an amazing beamed roof complete with 9 wooden angels.
There are opportunities for both formal and informal sport and leisure activities, both indoors and out, with a sports centre – offering badminton and squash courts together with a fitness suite, a popular recreation ground with skate park and Soham Lode which offers an ideal place to fish or launch as small dinghy. Events and activities also feature strongly in the Soham Calendar with an annual Pumpkin Fair, Open Gardens Day and regular Antiques and Craft Fairs.
LITTLEPORT
Situated on the edge of the fens, close to the river Great Ouse, Littleport is a picturesque market town with a colourful history to explore. Retrace the steps of the 1816 rioters, discover the towns link to Harley-Davidson motorcycles and Burberry fashion house or relax by the river, where the famous Oxford v Cambridge University Boat Race was once held.
Much of the central area of Littleport is Victorian in style. The town centre is designated as a Conservation Area and there are a number of listed buildings. The town has a good range of facilities and a number of shops and eating-places. Positioned beside the river Great Ouse, this is a popular area for fishing, walking and boating, and there are a range of moorings and facilities for the boating fraternity.
Located on the main A10 road link to between Cambridge and King’s Lynn, with good rail links with these areas and beyond, Littleport is an ideal base from which to explore the fens. Littleport is only 5 miles north of the cathedral city of Ely, 20 miles north of the University City of Cambridge, and is also a popular stop of place for tourists enroute to the Norfolk coast. Local attractions include Welney Wildfowl Nature Reserve and Prickwillow Drainage Museum.
