Promoting vibrant and viable small towns

Carterton Town Council

Representing Carterton

Carterton, in west Oxfordshire, was founded in 1900 by William Carter as a centre for market gardening. Its growth has largely mirrored the growth of RAF Brize Norton, which lies to the south of the town. A new estate of some 1,400 homes has resulted in a number of new facilities being developed.

A MTI Healthcheck was carried out in 2003 and some 50 projects are now being taken forward. The chief of these is the development of the town centre, for which the town received Beacon Status. We have also established a community cinema and a local heritage project. A new community facility is being developed and should open in 2007.
