Promoting vibrant and viable small towns

Burgess Hill Town Council

Representing Burgess Hill

From a population of 14,000 in 1961, Burgess Hill has expanded rapidly in recent years and is now a thriving community of some 29,000 residents. Situated in gently rolling countryside with views to the Sussex Downs to the south and the High Weald to the north, it is a very pleasant place to live.

Burgess Hill has a reputation as a friendly town with a strong community spirit. There is a wide range of clubs, societies and organisations which cater for social, sporting and community needs and do much to enhance the quality of life in the town. Highlights of the year include the week long Summer Festival in June and the Bonfire Procession and celebrations in late September. In December, the streets are decorated with Christmas lights as a prelude to the Christmas Festival and procession.

The emphasis on service to residents and welcoming visitors is demonstrated by the Town Council’s Help Point and Tourist Information Centre, located in the town centre. This provides easy access for residents and visitors to Local Government and Tourism services. Town Centre facilities include the modern covered shopping mall in the Market Place Shopping Centre, the Martlets Shopping Centre and the Martlets complex incorporating the Library and 300 seat theatre. Community services such as the Citizens Advice Bureau, CVS and other voluntary organisations, are centrally located in Community Resource Centre at 38 Church Road.

Hi tech industry is a vital part of Burgess Hill’s life stream. Well known names continue to be attracted to the area by ease of communication by road and rail, proximity to Gatwick Airport and quality of housing.
